Job Title: Circulation Clerk


Description/Summary
The Circulation Clerk performs duties involved in operating the circulation desk including checking books both in and out of the library and collecting fines and fees as defined in the Library Policies. The clerk keeps the desk clear, organizes the books that are returned for reshelving, assists with overdues and issues new cards.

 

Essential Functions

  • Checks books in and out of the Library.
  • Assists in organizing the books for reshelving.
  • Collects overdue fines as well as library fees.
  • Issues new library cards.
  • Routes telephone calls to the appropriate areas of the building.
  • May perform duties related to book repair, overdues, shelving or reading of shelves.
  • Works with the online circulation system.
  • Participates in training updates as necessary.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by Library Director or Assistant Director


Requirements

    • Must possess a high school diploma.
    • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
    • Must be able to continually reach, bend, stretch, stoop and lift materials that can weigh up to 10 pounds from a standing position.
    • Ability to retrieve and replace materials that can weigh up to 10 pounds apiece on shelves from floor level to seven feet high.
    • Must be computer literate and able to operate cash register and accurately count money.
    • Ability to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with patrons of all ages and with other employees.
