Job Description
Title: Youth Assistant
Description/Summary: The Youth Assistant works with the Youth Services Librarian to develop and implement programs, including assisting when programs are scheduled on weekends and evenings. The Youth Assistant also helps staff the Youth Services desk.
Essential Functions:
Assist patrons, primarily children, teens, and parents, while staffing the youth services desk
Prepare crafts and activities for story hour and other programs
Assist with outreach to schools and daycares and help with school/daycare visits
Help plan and implement the Summer Reading Program
Other duties may be assigned by the Library Director or Direct Supervisor
Requirements:
Must possess a high school diploma
Ability to relate to children and young adults
Be computer literate and comfortable learning new systems and programs
Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and effectively with patrons of all ages and with other employees
Have an interest and awareness of children’s and teen literature

This is a non-exempt position with part-time hours to be set by the Library Director. Hourly rate of pay set by the Library Board and reviewed annually.
Desk Clerk

Job Description
The Desk Clerk performs duties involved in operating the circulation desk including assisting patrons use the library, checking books in and out of the library and collecting fines and fees as defined in the Library Policies. The clerk keeps the desk clear, organizes the books that are returned for re-shelving, and issues new cards.
Salary:
$10-$13 starting; $15 ceiling
General Summary:
The Desk Clerk is a part-time position under the direction of the Department Head of Public Services and Assistant Director.
Job Functions:
● Opening and closing the library when assigned.
● Loan library materials to patrons and collect returned materials.
● Organize and reshelve returned items.
● Collect library fees as applicable.
● Handle the registration of new library patrons and issue library cards.
● Assist patrons with the use of library resources.
● Assist patrons in finding requested materials.
● Assist patrons with library technology, computer lab, and general technological questions.
● Answer any questions from patrons.
● Perform basic secretarial duties such as answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, and organizing files at the front desk.
● Assist in shelving, shelf reading, and displays.
● Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the skills, knowledge, and minimum abilities required for the essential functions of the position.
● A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
● Computer skills, knowledge of Google Suites, and knowledge of current technology required.
● Ability to operate simple business machines required.
● Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
● Basic library skills preferred.
● Good mathematical skills, ability to count out change and balance cash register.
● Ability to change work priorities as needed.
● Ability to reasonably accommodate patron needs in a courteous and effective manner.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
● Must be resourceful, possess good judgment, and customer service skills.
● Excellent written and verbal communication.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds.
The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, bend, and stoop.
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear in a library setting of quiet to moderate noise.
