FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

The Friends of the Library (FOL) is a non-profit organization that supports the library, its mission, and its programs. The Friends raise funds, encourage use of the library, advocate for the library, organize programs for the library, and assist the library staff with library events. Membership is open to all individuals.

People join FOL to support the library and to have fun with people of similar interests. The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is an award-winning institution, a hub for cultural activities in Alpena. The Friends offer members many ways to participate and many levels of participation, each of which helps our library stay strong and active. Projects include the annual Used Book Sale, children and teen activities, summer reading programs, the “Blizzard of Books” distribution at the holidays, and receptions for guest speakers.

FOL offers an opportunity to participate in activities relevant to the library’s mission with a group of like-minded Friends.  However, it is not necessary to volunteer at all. Your membership funds will be used wisely to keep the library’s vibrant place in our community. FOL is all about how you can help your library remain a vibrant place in and for our community while joining a “society of friends in support of the arts and humanities.”

Who are Friends? It can be you! join and make a positive impact on your community.
