One Day Virtual Storytime Kit

One day. . . I went to school. I came home. The end, says our storyteller, a girl with a busy imagination and a thirst for adventure. The art tells a fuller tale of calamity on the way to school and an unpredictably happy ending. After reading ONE DAY, THE END, written by Rebecca Kai Dotlich and illustrated by Fred Koehler, choose an activity (or two) to extend learning.

WATCH and LISTEN to ONE DAY, THE END read and performed by illustrator Fred Koehler for Boyd Mills and Kane:

Choose an activity (or two!) to extend learning:

TALK about the in between.
The story begins “For every story there is a beginning and an end, but what happens in between makes all the difference.” The words in each short story, only told the beginning and the end. Go back and talk about what happened in between, using the illustrations for clues!

WRITE your own story.
Create 3 short, very short, shorter-than-ever stories using the formula from the book: Beginning (One day, I…) + Ending (I… The End.) Use pictures to tell what happened in between! Share your stories.

PLAY hide-and-seek.
In the book, the girl plays hide-and-seek with her brother. Play a game or two, adding in fun rules and twists. Check out some ideas below:
