Northeast Michigan Oral History Archive Database

This page features the oral histories and historic photographs held in Special Collections.  The oral histories are a "new" endeavor for the library.  Old recordings on cassette, vhs, and reel-to-reel are being digitized, transcribed, and downloaded into the Northeast Michigan Oral History Archive database for easy listening and searching.  Current interviews are being recorded on modern equipment and are quickly transferred into the database.  Not sure what to do with old recordings of your school interview with grandma?  The library accepts recordings and transcriptions that relate to Northeast Michigan that local residents or groups may have stashed away.

Historic photographs make up a substantial portion of the archives within Special Collections.  Though the library holds numerous originals and print copies, we also digitize historical photographs relating to the area of which people want to retain ownership, yet wish to share with the public.  We are able to scan most every form of negative including glass plates, as well as original photographs up to 11 x 17.  The historic photograph portion of the Northeast Michigan Oral History Archive database grows almost daily, so be sure to check back regularly.
