This Way, Charlie Virtual Storytime Kit

Inspired by a true story, this picture book brings to life a warm and unexpected friendship between a blind horse and a gruff goat. After reading THIS WAY, CHARLIE, written by Caron Levis and illustrated by Charles Santoso, choose an activity (or two) to extend learning.

1. WATCH and LISTEN to THIS WAY, CHARLIE by Caron Levis for KidLit TV:

2. Choose an activity (or two!) to extend learning:

- TALK about feeling afraid.
Do you remember a time when you were afraid? What happened? Why were you afraid? Who helped you? How do you feel now? What will you do next time?

- PRACTICE mindfulness.
In the story, Jack “breathes in sweet” and “breathes out brave,” when he’s working up his courage.

Try this ‘Honeysuckle Breath for Bravery’ breathing exercise or ‘Favorite Field’ grounding exercise from author Caron Levis: https://www.caronlevis.com/post/2020/03/19/this-way-to-bravery-peace-this-way-charlie-activity

- CREATE a moon badge.
In the video, the author suggests making a moon badge for someone you love. Cut a circle from cardstock or the center of a paper plate. Paint any color, applying paint with pom-poms or crumpled paper to create a crater effect. Once the painted badge has dried, decorate it with markers, glitter, and more! Present the moon badge to someone who always helps guide your way!

- SHARE pictures and stories about your experience with today’s Virtual Storytime Kit in the comments or by tagging us on Instagram and FB!
